June Bug (or May Beetle)

Found in lawns, gardens, and woodlots across North America; larvae live underground in the soil.

Adults feed on the foliage of trees and shrubs at night; larvae (grubs) eat the roots of grasses and other plants.

Nocturnal insects that are strongly attracted to lights; they have a multi-year life cycle (1-4 years) primarily spent as larvae underground.

Generally harmless to humans; however, they can be significant pests to lawns and agriculture due to larvae root-feeding and adult leaf-feeding. They serve as a vital food source for birds, skunks, and other wildlife.
