Silverfish (likely long-tailed silverfish)

Indoors, especially in warm, dry buildings, wall voids, attics, basements, and around stored paper or textiles. This specimen appears to be emerging from a narrow crack.

Feeds on carbohydrates and starchy materials, including paper, book bindings, wallpaper paste, textiles, crumbs, and dead insects. It grazes with chewing mouthparts and can survive long periods without food.

Primarily nocturnal, fast-running, and highly secretive; it hides in cracks during daylight. Development is gradual without a pupal stage, and adults may live for several years.

Harmless to people and does not bite or transmit disease, but established infestations can damage books, wallpaper, cardboard, and fabrics. It contributes modestly to decomposition but is mainly considered an indoor nuisance.
