Likely imperial moth

Woodlands and gardens across eastern North America; adults are often attracted to outdoor lights.

Caterpillars feed on leaves of trees such as oak, maple, and pine. Adults do not feed.

A large, nocturnal moth; adults emerge in warm months, mate, and lay eggs on host plants. The caterpillar pupates in soil or leaf litter.

Harmless to people and homes. Caterpillars contribute to food webs and rarely cause notable tree damage.
