Carpet Beetle

Typically found indoors in dry areas like carpets, closets, pantries, and upholstered furniture. Outdoors they are often found on flowers.

Adults feed on pollen and nectar. Larvae feed on natural fibers, animal byproducts, and dried organic matter such as wool, silk, feathers, fur, and pet hair.

Adults are attracted to light and often found near windows. The larvae (often called 'woolly bears') are responsible for damage to household materials and go through a complete metamorphosis.

They do not bite or spread disease, but their larvae can cause significant damage to fabrics and stored goods. Some people may experience allergic reactions or skin irritation from contact with larval hairs.
