Giant Water Bug

Freshwater ponds, marshes, and slow-moving streams, often clinging to submerged vegetation.

Carnivorous predator feeding on small fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and aquatic insects using a piercing rostrum.

Waits ambush-style for prey and breathes air using two posterior straps. Males carry fertilized eggs on their backs until hatching.

Delivers a painful defensive bite if handled improperly, but acts as a vital apex predator controlling aquatic pest populations.
