Ground Beetle

Found in fields, gardens, and agricultural land, typically under rocks, logs, or leaf litter on the soil surface.

Omnivorous; feeds on a variety of invertebrates like slugs and aphids, as well as plant seeds (particularly strawberry seeds).

Mainly nocturnal; they are active runners that hunt on the ground at night and hide in dark, moist areas during the day. They are often attracted to artificial lights at night.

Benefit the ecosystem as natural pest control for garden pests; pose no direct risk to humans, though they can release a pungent odor or give a minor pinch if handled.
