Obligative hematophages, feeding exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, especially humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal pests that emerge at night to feed; they undergo incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult) and can survive for months without a food source.
Risks & Benefits
A major public health pest causing itchy welts, allergic reactions, and psychological distress; however, they are not known to transmit diseases to humans.
