Likely dragonfly (adult)

Freshwater lake margins, ponds, streams, and wetlands with emergent vegetation; adults often perch on shoreline plants or objects.

Adults capture mosquitoes, flies, and other small flying insects in midair. Aquatic nymphs ambush larvae, tadpoles, and small aquatic animals.

Adults patrol or perch around water, mate near shore, and lay eggs in or beside the water. Nymphs develop underwater for months to several years before emerging and molting into adults.

Harmless to people and valuable predators of mosquitoes and other insects. They do not sting, though large individuals may bite only if forcibly handled.
