Darkling beetle (likely a mealworm beetle)

Stored grain, flour, cereals, pet food, and other dry organic materials; adults may wander indoors. Native outdoor habitats include soil, leaf litter, and decaying vegetation.

Larvae feed on grains, bran, flour, and other dry plant matter; adults eat similar foods and scavenged organic debris.

Mostly nocturnal and ground-dwelling, with adults hiding in dark, dry places. Complete metamorphosis includes egg, larva (mealworm), pupa, and adult stages.

Generally harmless to people and do not bite or sting, but infest stored foods and can contaminate them. They are important decomposers and are widely used as animal feed.
