Scientific Name: Nysius raphanus

Size: Approximately 3 to 4 mm (1/8 inch) in length.

Found in open fields, grasslands, and agricultural areas; often congregates on buildings during hot, dry periods.

Polyphagous herbivore; feeds on a wide variety of plants including mustard family (Brassicaceae), weeds, and occasional garden crops.

Known for mass migrations in enormous numbers when host weeds dry up; they are active during the day and often seek moisture near structures.

Generally harmless to humans but can be a nuisance pest in homes. Large swarms can cause wilting or damage to certain young agricultural plants.
