Found near standing water sources, ponds, marshes, and urban areas worldwide.

Females feed on blood from humans, mammals, birds, or reptiles to produce eggs; males and females feed on plant nectar.

Active primarily at dawn and dusk. Females locate hosts using carbon dioxide, body heat, and scent.

Bites cause itchy, red welts due to immune response to saliva. Mosquitoes act as vectors for diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, Zika, and West Nile virus. They serve as a food source for aquatic life, bats, and birds.
