Long-bodied cellar spider (daddy longlegs)

Common in buildings, basements, garages, sheds, caves, and other sheltered, humid locations worldwide. It builds webs in corners and undisturbed spaces.

A predator of flies, mosquitoes, moths, ants, and other small arthropods. It can also capture and consume other spiders, including larger species, by wrapping prey in silk.

It hangs upside down in a loose, irregular web and rapidly vibrates when disturbed, becoming difficult to target. Females carry egg sacs in their chelicerae; spiderlings molt several times before maturity.

Harmless to humans and not medically significant. It benefits households and ecosystems by reducing nuisance insects and other spiders.
