Decaying wood, under bark, soil, vegetation, and leaf litter.

Adults feed on plant sap, nectar, flowers, or small soft-bodied insects. Larvae (wireworms) feed on roots, seeds, decaying wood, or soil invertebrates.

Known for their unique snapping mechanism: when placed on their backs, they use a peg and socket spine on their thorax to right themselves with a sharp clicking sound. Adults are active at night and attracted to light.

Harmless to humans; they do not bite or sting. Some wireworm larvae can be agricultural pests damaging root crops and seeds, while others help decompose dead wood.
