Field cricket (likely a black field cricket)

Grasslands, lawns, gardens, forest edges, and areas beneath debris; often enters buildings at night.

Omnivorous and mainly nocturnal, feeding on plant material, seeds, fungi, dead insects, and small living invertebrates.

Males produce chirping calls by rubbing their wings together; females lay eggs in soil, and young nymphs resemble wingless adults. They hide in cracks or vegetation by day and may be attracted to lights.

Generally harmless to people and property, though indoor individuals can be noisy and occasionally damage fabrics or seedlings. They recycle organic matter and provide food for birds, reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals.
