Springtail

Damp environments such as soil, leaf litter, decaying wood, and reptile enclosures with high humidity.

Fungi, algae, decaying organic matter, and bacteria.

They are wingless, highly prolific in moist conditions, and often use a specialized forked appendage (furcula) under their abdomen to jump or spring away when disturbed.

Springtails are generally harmless to humans and pets, do not bite or transmit disease, and are beneficial as detritivores. In terrariums and reptile enclosures, they act as cleanup crews by eating mold and waste.
