Green shield bug (nymph)

Woodlands, hedgerows, gardens, and crop vegetation across Europe and parts of western Asia; commonly rests on leaves and stems.

Pierces plants with sucking mouthparts, feeding on sap, fruits, seeds, and developing plant tissues. It may occasionally damage beans, fruits, and other crops.

Nymphs pass through several wingless stages before becoming adults; both nymphs and adults emit defensive odors when disturbed. Adults overwinter in sheltered vegetation or leaf litter.

Generally harmless to humans and nonvenomous, though it can be an occasional agricultural or garden pest. It contributes to food webs as prey for birds, spiders, and predatory insects.
