Black Vine Weevil

Gardens, nurseries, and greenhouses; frequently enters homes during seasonal changes or when looking for moisture.

Adults feed on the leaves of over 100 different plant species (including rhododendrons and yews), while larvae feed on plant roots.

They are nocturnal, flightless insects that play dead when disturbed. Most populations are entirely female and reproduce through parthenogenesis (laying fertile eggs without mating).

They are serious agricultural and garden pests that can kill plants by girdling roots. They pose no physical risk to humans or pets but can be a nuisance when they wander indoors.
