Vegetated areas, gardens, crop fields, and leaf litter; adults may wander indoors from nearby plants.

Adults chew small shot-holes in leaves, especially brassicas and other garden plants; larvae typically feed on roots or underground plant parts.

Small, oval beetles that often jump suddenly when disturbed using enlarged hind legs. Adults overwinter in plant debris or soil and are most active in warm conditions.

Generally harmless to people and pets, but some species damage seedlings and leafy crops. They are part of food webs and their larvae contribute to soil nutrient cycling.
