Mining Bee

Gardens, meadows, and areas with exposed sandy or loose soil suitable for burrowing.

Herbivorous. Adults feed on nectar and collect pollen to feed their larvae.

Solitary bees that nest in the ground. Females excavate tunnels to lay eggs, provisioned with pollen balls. They are among the first bees to emerge in spring.

Extremely beneficial as pollinators for wildflowers and agricultural crops. They are generally non-aggressive and rarely sting unless handled roughly; their stings are typically weak.
