Spittlebug (Meadow Spittlebug)

Found in meadows, grasslands, gardens, and agricultural fields worldwide, particularly on herbaceous plants and weeds.

Plant sap. They use piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on the vascular fluids of various plants.

Nymphs (immature stages) create a frothy, spit-like substance called 'cuckoo spit' to protect themselves from predators and desiccation. Adults are strong jumpers and can leap significant distances.

High populations can cause minor damage to crops and garden plants by sucking sap and occasionally transmitting plant pathogens, but they are generally not considered major agricultural pests.
