Green Stink Bug (or Southern Green Stink Bug)

Fields, gardens, orchards, crop fields, and woodlands; often wanders indoors during cooler months to seek shelter.

Herbivorous; uses piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on plant juices from leaves, stems, fruits, and seeds of trees, vegetables, and crops.

Attracted to outdoor lights at night. When disturbed or crushed, it emits a foul-smelling chemical secretion as a defense mechanism. Undergoes incomplete metamorphosis (egg, nymph, adult).

Harmless to humans and pets (they do not bite, sting, or transmit diseases). They can be agricultural and garden pests by damaging fruits, vegetables, and foliage. Intact, they contribute to the local food web.
