Diet & Feeding

Detritivore; primarily eats decaying organic matter, fungi, and rotting wood.

Behavior Patterns

Nocturnal and moisture-dependent; they breathe through gill-like structures and must remain in damp environments to survive. Unlike pillbugs, sowbugs cannot roll into a complete ball.

Risks & Benefits

Harmless to humans; they do not bite or sting. They are highly beneficial to ecosystems as decomposers that recycle nutrients back into the soil.
