Bed bug

Mattresses, bed frames, upholstered furniture, cracks, and other sheltered indoor spaces near sleeping hosts.

Feeds primarily on human blood, typically at night, using piercing-sucking mouthparts. It can also feed on other mammals and birds.

Nocturnal, secretive, and attracted to warmth, carbon dioxide, and host odors. Females lay eggs in crevices; infestations spread mainly through luggage, clothing, furniture, and wall voids.

Bites cause itchy, inflamed marks and may trigger allergic reactions, though bed bugs are not established vectors of disease. They provide little meaningful ecosystem benefit indoors.
