Black Vine Weevil

Gardens, nurseries, greenhouses, and residential landscapes, often found under leaf litter, mulch, or indoors during cooler weather

Herbivorous; adults feed on the foliage of various ornamental plants, shrubs, and perennials (causing characteristic notches on leaf edges), while larvae feed underground on plant roots.

Nocturnal, flightless (fused wing covers), and primarily parthenogenetic (all individuals are females reproducing without males). They often play dead when disturbed.

They pose no health risk to humans or pets (cannot bite or sting), but they are serious agricultural and garden pests that can damage foliage and weaken or kill host plants due to larval root feeding.
