Pavement Ant

Urban and suburban areas, often nesting under sidewalks, driveways, stones, and building foundations.

Omnivorous; feeds on a variety of foods including seeds, nectar, insects, and human food scraps like sweets, greases, and proteins.

They are highly social and live in large colonies. They are known for territorial 'sidewalk wars' between neighboring colonies and follow distinct pheromone trails to food sources.

Generally considered a nuisance pest in homes. They do not pose significant health risks but can contaminate food. In ecosystems, they help with soil aeration and seed dispersal.
