Long-jawed orb-weaver (probable)

Common across the United States near vegetation, grass, water, and outdoor structures; adults are active in warm late-summer conditions, including September.

Predatory; captures flies, mosquitoes, and other small flying insects in orb webs or by active ambush.

Usually nocturnal or crepuscular, with an elongated body and very long legs; it often rests along stems or narrow surfaces and may rapidly drop or run when disturbed. The image is too low-resolution for confident species-level identification.

Not medically significant to people and generally avoids confrontation; beneficial as a predator of nuisance insects. The apparent hooked appendage may be a leg or web strand rather than a stinger.
