Banded burying beetle

Woodlands, grasslands, and other open habitats, often near carrion.

Adults and larvae feed mainly on small dead animals; adults may also eat fly larvae.

Adults locate and bury small carcasses, then prepare them as food for their larvae. The orange pronotum and striped black-and-orange wing covers are characteristic.

Harmless to people and useful in decomposition and nutrient recycling.
