Bed bug

Hides in mattresses, bed frames, furniture, and cracks near places where people sleep; occurs worldwide.

Feeds on blood, primarily from humans, usually at night.

Flattened, wingless insects that hide by day and emerge to feed; females lay small eggs in sheltered crevices.

Bites can cause itchy skin reactions and disturbed sleep, but bed bugs are not known to transmit disease. They have no meaningful ecological benefit in human dwellings.
