Antlion (Larva)

Sandy soil, dry dusty areas, and sheltered sites like under rock ledges or building eaves.

Primarily ants, but will consume other small ground-dwelling insects that fall into their pits.

Often called "doodlebugs" due to the trails they leave in the sand. They dig funnel-shaped pits to trap prey and wait at the bottom buried in the soil.

Beneficial to the ecosystem as natural pest control. They are harmless to humans, though they may give a tiny, non-venomous pinch if handled.
