Larvae feed on keratin-containing natural materials such as wool, silk, fur, feathers, hair, and leather

The larva constructs a portable protective silken case encrusted with fibers and debris, which it carries around as it moves and feeds, eventually pupating inside it

Risks: Destructive pest to clothing, textiles, rugs, and preserved animal specimens. Benefits: None in indoor settings; outdoors helps decompose animal remains like nests and fur.
