Spotted Lanternfly

Native to parts of China, India, and Vietnam, but highly invasive in North America; commonly found on trees, agricultural land, forests, and outdoor wooden structures.

Sucking insect that feeds on sap from over 70 species of plants, heavily preferring tree-of-heaven (Ailanthus altissima), grapevines, fruit trees, and hardwoods.

Strong jumper and poor flyer; lays egg masses on smooth surfaces like tree bark, stone, vehicles, and outdoor furniture in late autumn; excretes sugary 'honeydew' which promotes black sooty mold growth.

Significant agricultural pest posing high risk to vineyard, orchard, and forestry industries by weakening host plants; causes nuisance through honeydew accumulation; no direct medical risk or sting/bite hazard to humans or pets.
