Moist, sheltered places such as leaf litter, gardens, mulch, under stones, and buildings. Often enters homes at night seeking darkness and humidity.

Omnivorous scavenger that eats decaying plant matter, algae, small insects, mites, and occasionally living flowers or seedlings.

Mostly nocturnal and secretive; hides during daylight. The forceps-like cerci are used in defense, courtship, and handling prey; females guard and tend their eggs and young.

Harmless to humans, though it may pinch weakly if handled and can damage seedlings or flower petals. It also consumes aphids and other small pests and helps decompose organic matter.
