Pavement Ant

Found commonly in urban and suburban areas, nesting under pavement, concrete slabs, rocks, and building foundations.

Omnivorous; feeds on seeds, sweet honeydew, grease, dead insects, crumbs, and human food scraps.

Form large, highly organized colonies. Known for engaging in territorial spring 'wars' with neighboring colonies along sidewalk cracks.

Benefits: Helps aerate soil, scavenges waste, and controls populations of other small pest insects. Risks: Can become a nuisance indoor pest when foraging for food, though they rarely bite humans and do not cause structural damage.
