Diet & Feeding

Mainly feeds on yeast cells that grow on fermenting or rotting fruit and other organic matter.

Behavior Patterns

Attracted to light and fermented odors. They have a very rapid life cycle, often developing from egg to adult in 8-10 days, allowing for fast-growing populations.

Risks & Benefits

They are a nuisance and can contaminate food with bacteria. However, they are highly beneficial in scientific research as genetic model organisms.
