Obligate hematophagous, meaning they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.
Behavior Patterns
Nocturnal and elusive. They are attracted to body heat and carbon dioxide. After feeding, it is common for them to leave blood stains or fecal spotting on linens when crushed inadvertently.
Risks & Benefits
While not known to transmit diseases, they cause psychological distress and skin reactions/welts from bites. They provide no ecosystem benefits in human environments and are considered significant pests.
