Homes, especially carpets, upholstered furniture, closets, and areas containing lint, pet hair, or natural fibers; adults may occur near windows and flowers.

Adults feed mainly on pollen and nectar. Larvae eat keratin-containing materials such as wool, fur, feathers, silk, dead insects, and accumulated lint.

Adults are small, oval beetles that often wander indoors or fly toward light. Larvae are hairy, avoid light, and can remain hidden while developing for months or longer.

Larvae can damage textiles and may cause itchy, bristly skin irritation from shed hairs. They are decomposers outdoors, recycling animal-derived organic matter.
