Ailanthus Webworm Moth

Found in wooded areas, gardens, and urban environments where host trees like the Tree of Heaven or native bitterwoods are present.

Larvae feed primarily on the foliage of Ailanthus altissima (Tree of Heaven) and related species, while adults feed on nectar from flowers.

Adults are active during the day, which is unusual for most moths, and often visit flowers. Larvae spin communal webs on host plants where they feed together.

They pose no significant risk to humans and can act as a minor biological control agent against the invasive Tree of Heaven, though their caterpillars can defoliate host trees.
