Feeds on yeast production from fermenting organic materials, such as overripe fruit, vegetables, and stagnant or sugary liquids.

Behavior Patterns

Attracted to light and fermentation odors; they undergo rapid complete metamorphosis with a life cycle often lasting only 8-10 days in ideal conditions.

Risks & Benefits

Generally considered a nuisance pest. While not biters, they can cross-contaminate food with bacteria and pathogens collected from the unsanitary environments where they breed.
