Field grasshopper (likely a Chorthippus species)

Dry, sunny grassland, heath, roadsides, gardens, and disturbed ground across Britain.

Primarily grasses and other herbaceous plants, which it chews with biting mouthparts.

Adults are active from roughly June into October, so a September UK record is plausible. It is diurnal, jumps readily when disturbed, and males produce characteristic stridulation by rubbing their legs against the wings.

Harmless to people and not a significant UK crop pest at ordinary densities. It is an important food source for birds, reptiles, amphibians, and predatory insects; exact identification is limited because the image appears to show a mounted or printed specimen and key markings are obscured.
