Fishing spider (likely dark fishing spider)

Often found near water, in woodland vegetation, under logs, or around buildings; this individual appears to be in a terrarium or enclosure.

Predatory; eats insects and other small arthropods, and some fishing spiders also capture small aquatic animals.

Usually hunts without a web, relying on ambush and vibration sensing. Females carry an egg sac and later guard the spiderlings.

Generally non-aggressive and beneficial for controlling insect populations; a bite is uncommon and may cause temporary pain or swelling.
