Woodlouse (pill bug/sowbug)

Damp, shaded places such as soil, leaf litter, under stones, rotting wood, basements, and bathrooms.

Feeds mainly on decaying plant material, fungi, algae, and organic detritus; it occasionally grazes on tender plant tissue.

Primarily nocturnal and moisture-dependent, hiding in crevices during dry conditions. It molts in stages and breathes through abdominal structures requiring humid conditions.

Harmless to people, pets, and buildings, and it does not bite or transmit disease. It benefits ecosystems by shredding decomposing material and recycling nutrients; large indoor numbers indicate excess moisture.
