Pantropical and temperate regions; often found indoors in kitchens, pantries, and warehouses storing dried plant materials.

Highly varied; feeds on dried foods like bread, flour, spices, pet food, and even medicinal herbs or books.

Adults are capable of flight and are attracted to light. They lay eggs on food sources, and the larvae burrow into the material, creating tunnels as they feed.

A significant stored-product pest that can contaminate and ruin food supplies. They are not harmful to humans directly (no biting or stinging) but pose an economic risk to households and businesses.
