Open fields, meadows, pastures, gardens, parks, and disturbed areas globally

Adults feed on flower nectar from thistles, asters, and clovers; caterpillars feed on host plant foliage like thistles, mallows, and hollyhocks.

Strong migratory behavior, capable of traveling thousands of miles. Complete metamorphosis through egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages.

Harmless to humans. Acts as a beneficial pollinator for wild plants and crops; caterpillars may occasionally feed on cultivated plants, but rarely cause significant agricultural damage.
