Spotted lanternfly

Woodlands, orchards, gardens, parks, and urban areas, especially where tree-of-heaven grows.

Sap-feeding insect that uses piercing-sucking mouthparts on tree-of-heaven, grapes, fruit trees, maples, and many other woody plants.

Adults aggregate on trunks, fences, and other sunlit surfaces in late summer and fall. They jump or fly when disturbed and lay egg masses on bark, stone, vehicles, and outdoor structures.

It can weaken plants, reduce grape and fruit yields, and leave sticky honeydew that promotes sooty mold. It is an invasive pest with few known ecosystem benefits.
