Minute Pirate Bug (Nymph) / Insidious Flower Bug

Found outdoors in fields, gardens, crop plants, leaves, and flowers; often accidentally brought indoors or blown onto skin.

Predatory insect that feeds on soft-bodied pests such as thrips, spider mites, aphids, and insect eggs by piercing them with a needle-like mouthpart.

Active hunters during warm summer and early autumn months. Known for biting humans casually during late summer even though they do not feed on blood or live on humans.

Risks: Their bites can be unexpectedly sharp, irritating, and mildly painful given their tiny size, causing temporary red bumps, but they do not transmit diseases, inject venom, or cause infestations. Benefits: Highly beneficial biocontrol agent in agricultural fields and gardens that eats many common plant pests.
