Fruit fly (likely vinegar fly)

Homes, restaurants, orchards, compost, and other places with fermenting fruit or moist organic residue.

Adults feed on yeast, fermenting fruit juices, and other sugary liquids; larvae consume microorganisms and decomposing fruit.

Adults are active fliers attracted to fermentation odors and reproduce rapidly, with eggs laid on moist, overripe produce. Development from egg to adult can take roughly 8–10 days in warm conditions.

They are harmless to people and do not bite, but can contaminate food and become a nuisance indoors. They help decompose organic matter and serve as important research organisms.
