Devil's Coach Horse Beetle

Found in damp environments like gardens, woodlands, and under stones or logs.

Carnivorous predator feeding on insects, slugs, worms, and various other invertebrates.

Raises its abdomen defensively like a scorpion and emits a foul-smelling secretion when threatened. It runs rapidly and is primarily nocturnal.

Harmless to humans, though it can give a painful pinch with its powerful mandibles if handled. It benefits ecosystems by controlling pest populations in gardens.
