Kudzu Bug

Agricultural fields, gardens, and overgrown areas containing host plants like kudzu and legumes; often found on building walls or indoors seeking warmth during fall and winter.

Feeds on plant juices/sap, primarily targeting kudzu plants, soybeans, and other leguminous plants using piercing-sucking mouthparts.

Attracted to light-colored surfaces such as white walls and vehicles. Forms large aggregations in autumn to overwinter in sheltered locations like houses or tree bark. Releases a pungent defensive odor when disturbed or crushed.

Risks: Significant agricultural pest to soybean crops; can cause skin irritation or staining if crushed against the skin; releases a foul odor indoors. Benefits: Helps control the growth of invasive kudzu vines by feeding on them.
