Larder Beetle / Carpet Beetle (Dermestid Beetle)

Indoors around stored dry food, pantries, animal feeds, wool, feathers, and carpets; outdoors under bark, in nests, or near animal carcasses.

Larvae feed on animal-based natural fibers, wool, silk, feathers, dead insects, pet food, dried meats, and dry plant materials.

Adults are attracted to light and often wander indoors. Females lay eggs near suitable organic food sources. Larvae are dark and hairy, actively feeding on stored materials before pupating.

Risks: Can cause damage to woolens, carpets, clothing, and stored food products; larval hairs can cause minor skin irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Benefits: In nature, they serve as crucial scavengers breaking down organic matter and dead animals.
