Hangs just below the surface film to breathe air through a siphon tube; twitches or wriggles actively down into the water column when disturbed

Larvae serve as a key food source for fish and aquatic predators; however, adult females bite humans/animals and vector diseases like West Nile Virus, Dengue, and Malaria
